What Will Our Lives Look Like in 100 Years?

Today I came across a story on mashable.com that shared designs of what people in 1900 thought life would be like in the year 2000. I flipped through the photos and descriptions and was amazed at what people thought our lives would be like now. Interestingly enough, some of their ideas weren’t too far off and others weren’t very close at all.

In 1900 electricity wasn’t a common part of everyone’s daily life. While it existed and was used, many people saw it as a sort of odd phenomenon. The artists who drew the pictures in the article had many different ideas of what the year 2000 would be like with the advancements in technology like electricity and machinery.

Some of the more ridiculous images were quite humorous. One image showed students in school hooked up to an electrical machine and teachers dropping books into a slot that appeared to put the information straight into the students brain. Another image showed people playing croquet under water with diving helmets on. And even funnier was an under water bus connected to a Whale that swam riders to their destination.

However, not all of these images were very far off the mark. One image showed people on a platform loading into flying “cabs.” This is actually not far off from an airport in todays  world. Another image showed a house rolling through the countryside. This sounds and looks an awful lot like an RV. And finally there was a tailor who made clothes with a machine. Most of todays clothing is machine made.

It is interesting to see how far our culture has come. With today’s technology like the internet, smartphones and fully electric cars, how much more advanced could we get?

What do you think our world will look like in 100 years?
