Google I/O – Product Announcements
Over the last three days, Google has been unveiling an army of answers against their competitors. Here is an in-depth look at three major product announcements from the 2012 Google I/O event. Nexus 7 We all knew eventually Google would splash into the tablet scene. I’m willing to bet that many think they’re already in it (I guess technically they are in terms of operating systems.). So let’s say we all knew that they would eventually make their presence known in the tablet hardware business. Google’s Nexus 7 is their first shot at doing just that. The … Continue reading
Summer Camp Rule: No Cell Phones
If you read my bio on the PayProMedia website, you’ll see that I was once employed by a summer camp. That summer was amazing, but one of the key rules was no phone… gasp! The reason behind this rule is simply to allow kids to get away from everything, relax, and focus on face-to-face conversation. As a staff member, I was exempt from this rule; it generally applied to campers and counselors. I was allowed to have my phone and laptop, as long as no campers were around. A question frequently popping up amongst camp leaders was this: “Is it … Continue reading
New to Facebook: Close Friends
Ever been scrolling on a friend’s Timeline and realized you missed their post or status on your News Feed? Well, Facebook set out to fix that problem. Now you can add up to 25 of your Facebook friends to the “Close Friends”list. This adds those friends to a section so you can see more of them on Facebook. It will make sure to you know each time they post to Facebook. To access this info, log into your Facebook and look to the left side of the screen where you can see your Favorites, Pages, Friends, Groups, and … Continue reading
Twitter’s Leg Up On Facebook
In this week’s version of PayProPlack, Chris discussed how some people use Twitter. He mentioned me in the video and how I normally use it to converse with friends about what’s happening in the world. I use it more like a mass text whereas Chris uses it primarily during sporting events. Clearly, a lot of other people use Twitter in similar ways as Chris; 6.16 Million tweets were sent out about Game 5 of the NBA finals last night. This event became the 3rd most talked about telecast ever, behind the Grammy’s and Super Bowl. The reason I originally … Continue reading
My Identity
Justin Thomas Farrell. Male. 22 Years of Age. 6’0″ – 150 pounds. This is me. A quick classification to distinguish me from the person next to me. Yet, there is another Justin Farrell in Houston, Texas. What make me different than him? Easy. My identity – my brand – sets me far apart from him. If both of us stood next to each other, anyone that knows me will say that I am Justin Farrell. Anyone that knows him, but not me, will say that he is Justin Farrell. Over the past 5-6 months, I have … Continue reading
Mr. Roger’s Brand
If you have not seen this Mr. Rogers video, YOU NEED TO! This video swept through facebook a few weeks ago. Being a guy who grew up watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, I really enjoyed the video. It brought back many of memories of watching TV after school while my Grandma (who was supposed to be babysitting us) took a nap. But, more importantly, it reminded me of the kind of person Mr. Rogers was. He was kind, encouraging, creative, curious and full of imagination — a perfect model for us at PayProMedia. I have not worked at PayProMedia … Continue reading
eBook Sales Surpass Hardcover Books: What This Means
American publishers are now receiving more revenue from eBooks than from hardcover books for the very first time. Now, at first I thought this was mundane. I just thought it was similar to when MP3 sales surpassed album sales with music. However, this is a big deal in terms of what this may mean for the future and the demographic of those who are buying eBooks. The most common users of these eBooks are those in the age range of 30-49 years old. This means that our world is becoming increasingly tech-savvy. It’s obvious that our world is evolving … Continue reading
Explore London 2012 via Facebook
Facebook launched the new Olympic hub, a new way to stay connected with what’s happening at the games via Facebook. The page is awesome and likely comes in the wake of how popular Twitter is during sporting events. For example, Twitter’s 2nd busiest moment was the last minutes of the Superbowl at 10,245 tweets per SECOND! Twitter users also connect to their favorite athletes via Twitter, such as Kaká, Real Madrid’s midfielder who has over 11 million followers. Thus, there is a large platform for sports and social media, and Twitter is leading the pack in pairing the two together. … Continue reading
Social Media: Word of Mouth on Steroids
It has become commonplace to refer to social media as a unique and potential-packed marketing tool. Unfortunately, it is also common to use social media incorrectly. Using social media properly could mean an increase in sales, but more importantly it can increase your brand recognition and reputation. Like we say around here, “The most important thing to remember is that Social Media is word of mouth on steroids.” This is what makes it so unique. Most other forms of advertising are just simply a one-way conversation. Social Media allows for dialogue between companies and customers. It also allows customers … Continue reading
